Welcome to the Library. My name is Carolyn Ouellette and I have been at St. Thomas the Apostle School since 2013. I earned my Bachelors Degree in elementary education from Wheelock College. I have been working with students in various settings for over 20 years.
I love seeing students discover a love of reading. I encourage a reluctant reader to try different genres and seeing them enjoying the book. I love sharing that moment when a young child goes from picture reading to reading words to reading books. It is truly an awesome experience.
Every student participates in library once a week. Kindergarten through eighth grade are able to check out books each week. The upper grades work on library skills and research projects while the younger grades enjoy read aloud stories.
Fourth grade through eighth grade participate in our reading counts program. Students are able to take a quiz on a book they have read. If they pass they earn points based on the length of the book. Students work hard to try to earn enough points to attend our ice cream party at the end of the year.
Library is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this year.
We are starting our battle of the books teams. If your child is in 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and loves to read, this is the club for them. We will be meeting two Wednesdays a month till May. Each team member needs to read 5 or 6 books from our list before May.
